| Criminal
Law: Edwin F. Brooks has handled criminal
cases since his admission to the bar. He trained under another
attorney, helping with that attorney's cases, before he started
representing clients of his own. This mentor was a long time
criminal defense attorney who was also a former prosecutor.
Edwin F. Brooks has handled criminal cases statewide, and
is available to represent clients in the Richmond area (Richmond,
Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover, Caroline, Goochland, Charles
City, New Kent counties, among others), as well as in the
Williamsburg area, the Petersburg/Tri-Cities area, Tidewater
(Mr. Brooks actually worked in Norfolk for eighteen months
after passing the bar examination), Northern Virginia, the
Charlottesville area, Southside Virginia, Southwest Virginia,
the Shenandoah Valley, and the New River Valley. Mr. Brooks
has also handled cases in the Staunton area, and is familiar
with the Courts in Covington and the surrounding environs.
Mr. Brooks has represented clients charged with murder, robbery,
rape, drug offenses, violent offenses, sex crimes, property
offenses (larceny, embezzlement, false pretenses), and virtually
every type of criminal offense imaginable. Mr. Brooks has
tried numerous cases to juries, and has been successful many
times, with acquittals won in violent cases, and drug cases.
He has also appealed cases to the Court of Appeals of Virginia
and the Supreme Court of Virginia. Mr. Brooks is available
to be retained for either trial or appellate cases in any
Court in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Juvenile Experience:
Mr. Brooks has represented hundreds of juveniles charged with
every sort of delinquent offense imaginable. He is also approved
to act as a guardian ad litem and has done so in many divergent
cases. Mr. Brooks represents parents who are being investigated
by Departments of Social Services. In addition, he represents
parents in child support disputes, and has prevailed on several
occasions against the Division of Child Support Enforcement.

Federal
Law: Mr. Brooks also has a wealth of experience
in Federal Court. He has represented a member of one of Virginia=s
most notorious groups of bank robbers. He has also represented
many individuals charged with drug related crimes, including
possession with the intent to distribute, drug distribution,
and multi kilogram conspiracies. Mr. Brooks has also developed
an expertise in firearm Project Exile cases. In fact, Mr.
Brooks has won two such cases. Mr. Brooks is mainly experienced,
in the United States District for the Eastern District of
Virginia, and has appealed a number of the cases to the Fourth
Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, which is based in Richmond,
and has also appealed cases to the Supreme Court of the United
States.
Condemnation cases:
Since 1995, Mr. Brooks has acted as counsel for the Office
of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia performing
condemnation cases for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
He first worked for another firm that held a contract to handle
condemnation cases, which involve the taking of land in order
to build a new road, improve an existing road or highway project,
or re-route an existing road. In 2000, Mr. Brooks obtained
a contract to continue to represent the Virginia Department
of Transportation (VDOT) separate and apart from the firm
for which he previously worked. He continues to represent
VDOT and cannot accept cases where VDOT is on the other side.
However, he is able to represent landowners whose land is
coveted by any other condemning authority, including power
companies, telephone companies, cities or counties, or any
other condemning authority. |
